An American diplomat visited our school
Last Friday Management Officer Mr. Jon Selle, from the US embassy, visited us – the nine graders of Tone Čufar Primary School. We gathered in our hall to meet him. When he arrived we gave him a warm welcome.
First our students made a video presentation of our home town Jesenice. Then our school dancers danced on Avsenik’s Golica and Texas country music. We all had a great time.
After that he introduced himself and told us about his home state of Texas, about his life there and his early school years. We learnt a lot. He asked us questions and for a correct answer he gave us special coins. I even got one!
Then it was our turn. We prepared questions for him as well. Those were about sport, education, differences between Slovenia and USA. His answers were very interesting and quite long.
He is a very nice person and funny, too. We could talk to him hours and hours.
At the end we gave him a painting of Narcissus, the symbol of Jesenice, made by one of our students. He was positively surprised and in return he gave us some gifts (magnets and flag pins).
We students enjoyed the meeting very much.
I think such events are perfect opportunity to communicate in English with native speakers and learn about their culture.
